MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Southern States Athletic Conference recently handed down its 2016-2017 end-of-year awards, with Blue Mountain College claiming the Musco Lighting Men's Sportsmanship Award and Dr. Delise Teague being named to the All-Faculty Team.
According to the SSAC, the end-of-year award in sportsmanship is based on the number of individual team sportsmanship awards received throughout the year. Blue Mountain men's athletic programs won three of those, with the baseball, cross country and golf programs being named.
"I'm super proud of these guys and it really says a lot about the character and integrity of the student-athletes we have here at Blue Mountain College," BMC Athletic Director Will Kollmeyer said. "This award really starts with our coaches and their leadership abilities, and we are truly blessed at BMC to have so many high-caliber coaches leading our athletic programs."
Teague, an assistant professor of education and former basketball standout for the Lady Toppers, has been a devoted supporter of student-athletes and sports programs at Blue Mountain College.
"It's an honor to be a member of the team of BMC professors and coaches who support and equip our student-athletes as they pursue academic excellence," Teague stated. "As a former BMC athlete, I know firsthand the challenges our athletes face as they work to balance the demands of their education and their sport. I commend our coaches for their commitment to recruiting student-athletes and for the work they are doing to build a culture that is focused on excellence in both the athletic arena and the classroom."
Overall, Blue Mountain College was awarded five individual sportsmanship awards from the SSAC during 2016-2017, with women's basketball and cross country being added to the trophy case.
