COVINGTON, Tenn. – Blue Mountain College Men's Golf moved up a spot in today's final round of the FHU Fall Invitational, finishing in the 5th spot amongst 14 teams.
Host Freed-Hardeman took the team crown, shooting 289-291-580 for the tournament, while Central Baptist College claimed 2nd with scores of 300-300-600.
As a team, Blue Mountain's A Squad shot 311-298-609, just a stroke behind SSAC rival Faulkner, led by Denver Russell (JR/Pontotoc, Miss.) who shot the low on the day in the field with a 71, giving him a total of 78-71-149.
Jordan Rockett (JR/Hoover, Ala.) tied for 14th posting 78-73-151, Kirk Reeder (JR/Tupelo, Miss.) ended tied at 22nd with 75-79-154, Clint Phillips (JR/Haleyville, Ala.) moved up eight spots on the board with scores of 81-76-157 for a tie at 37th and Andrew McDonald (JR/Fulton, Miss.) finished tied at 39th with 80-78-158.
Charlie Doran (SO/Nova Scotia), Dillon Sartain (FR/Glen, Miss.) and Cameron Kohl (SO/Marion, Ark.) moved up 15 spots on the board, with each firing 83-76-159, tied at 41st with teammate Ty Howell (SO/Pascagoula, Miss.) 80-79-159.
As of note, BMC's B Squad mustered up one of the best day's on the course, moving up two spots to 9th as a team with scores of 321-302-623, with Nicholas Brown (JR/Mooreville, Miss.) actually finishing tied in the 6th spot overall with a total of 75-73-148.
"We didn't feel like we played that well yesterday," BMC head coach Kevin Barefield said. "I've always felt like we're better than a 300 team, and we showed that today. I'm really proud of our effort in a field this tough, so it was great to see that score come through."
BMC returns to action Oct. 23 and 24 at the Martin Methodist Invitational at Canebrake Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss.
