Coach Phillip Laney enters his fifth season as the Head Men and Women’s Cross Country Coach at Blue Mountain College. Coach Laney came to Blue Mountain from Ripley High School where he served as the Head boys and girl’s Cross Country Coach and taught Chemistry for six years. Before going to Ripley, Coach Laney taught math and science and was the Head boys and girl’s Cross Country Coach for six years at New Albany High School.
Coach Laney’s 2012-2013 BMC cross country girls squad finished the season as the TranSouth conference champions and he received coach of the year award for the women’s cross country team. Coach Laney’s 2008-2009 cross country girls squad finished the season as 3A state runner-up. Also during his time at Ripley, he helped coach the only boy’s state championship at Ripley High School in Track and Field.
As a runner, Coach Laney was an All-State runner for Greenville Christian School (Greenville, MS). He earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Delta State University. He earned his Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Chemistry at Ole Miss and is currently working on his Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction in Chemistry at Ole Miss.
Coach Laney and his wife, Alison, have two daughters, Emma and Abby, and one son, Jon Benjamin.
