BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. -- Brent Townsend, a second baseman and catcher at Vina (Ala.) High School has signed a baseball grant-in-aid with Blue Mountain College.
Toppers coach Curt Fower called Townsend "one of the most athletic players I saw play all last season."
"He's a proven leader, on and off the field," Fowler said. "He has a lot of pop in his bat, has really good speed and plays the game the way it should be played. We'll use Brent at second base and also give him a little work behind the plate."
Townsend, recently selected to play in the Lions Club All-Star Baseball game, was the most valuable player on Vina's baseball, basketball and football teams this year.
He hit .400 his senior season with 18 runs batted in and 40 stolen bases. As a junior Townsend hit .468 for the Devils during his junior year.
"Brent is the type of player every coach wants on his team," Fowler said. "We're proud to have him at BMC as we begin our baseball program."
We at Vina are so proud of Brent! You will find that you have chosen one of the best kids this school has ever seen to attend your college and play sports. Congratulations to both of you for a good choice.
