BMC signs Michigan juco star

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. -- Hard-hitting Nathan Bell, a two-year standout at Jackson (Mich.) Community College, has signed a baseball grant-in-aide with the Blue Mountain College Toppers.

"Nathan will be a big player for us," said BMC coach Curt Fowler. "He's a really good hitter and a strong defensive player at first base. He's got a lot of that 'pop' in his bat you hear so much about -- and he's an outstanding student."

Bell hit .342 for Jackson CC this year. He had 29 doubles, 2 home runs, 35 runs batted in and scored 39 runs for the Jets, who finished the season at 37-19. His freshman season at JCC, Bell hit .289 in 35 games with 7 doubles, 2 homers and 20 rbi.

Bell, a pre-pharmacy major and valedictorian of his Tecumseh (Mich.) High class two years ago, earned all-conference and all-state honors druing his senior season when he hit .495 with 10 doubles, 5 triples, 9 homers and 49 rbi. He was also academic all-state.
