BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Joel Rich, a hard-hitting infielder at Northwest Mississippi Community College and Southaven High School, has signed a scholarship with Blue Mountain College.
“Joel has one of the best bats I’ve seen in a long time,” said BMC coach Curt Fowler. “He’s a strong defensive player at both third base and first base, and we’ll also use him as a designated hitter. You don’t keep a bat like his in the dugout.”
As a senior, Rich was named the Shelby County Metro Male Athlete of the Year. He lettered in both football and baseball for three seasons, and was a 3-time all-district and all-Chickasaw Conference player for the Chargers. His senior year at Southaven he hit .497 with 7 home runs, 12 doubles and 42 runs batted in.
Rich, who also played football at Northwest, hit .304 and .306 for the Rangers. In 66 games for Northwest, he had 9 homers, 11 doubles and 52 rbi. He also compiled an on base percentage of .443 for the Rangers.
