BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Jonathan Morrison, a standout pitcher and infielder for the Ripley Tigers, has signed a grant-in-aid with Blue Mountain College for the 2011-2012 season.
Morrison, who will be a senior at Ripley, is BMC’s first signee for its second season in the NAIA TranSouth Athletic Conference.
“We’re excited about getting a player the caliber of Jonathan for our program,” Toppers coach Curt Fowler said. “He will be one of the top seniors in the state next season and we’re really happy to get him signed early. He’ll make an immediate impact on our program.”
During his junior season at Ripley, Morrison was 4-3 on the mound with 7 complete games. He rang up 92 strikeouts in 54.2 innings, including 5 games with 11 or more, and compiled a 1.54 earned run average. Morrison also picked up 8 saves on the season and was named Division 1-3A pitcher of the year.
He also hit .367 for the Tigers with 7 runs batted in, 7 doubles and a single home run.
