"Counting the days..." That seems to be the theme as the Toppers enter their fourth week of practice and anxiously look forward to the next couple of weeks. Meet the Toppers Night on Thursday, October 8 should be a fun time to get the old adrenalin flowing; and then the first scrimmage game against Northeast Mississippi Community College will take place at the new Ripley High School Event Center on Tuesday, October 13.
The Blue Mountain College Booster Club, known as the Blue Mountain College Topper Club, will meet on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at 6:00 P.M. in Fisher Washburn room 108. This is the first meeting of the year and we encourage all interested supporters of Blue Mountain College Athletics to attend. The meeting will highlight our coaching staff, including baseball and softball, give you an opportunity to join the Topper Club, meet the officers of the club, and begin making plans for the year.
Thank you to each one who participated in the Ram Squad Leader and Mascot Tryouts for the 2009-2010 basketball season. The results of the tryouts are listed below. This group is very valuable for creating Spirit at our home contests. They add a very needed element to the atmosphere at our games. All of the coaches and players thank you for your willingness to serve Blue Mountain College and Intercollegiate Athletics. Go Toppers!
The Lady ToppersBasketball Team has been hard at work preparing for the upcoming season. Blisters, a few muscle strains, and breaking in new basketball shoes have all been a part of the pre-season work outs. 12 young ladies are on the roster for the 2009-10 season, with 7 returnees and 5 freshmen representing women's basketball.
A very special thanks to Oakland Baptist Church in Corinth for hosting the Toppers at their annual "Tailgate Event." The Toppers enjoyed a delicious steak dinner and were entertained and inspired by former University of Tennessee and professional football kicker Alan Duncan who was the guest speaker.
Enthusiasm has been the key ingredient as the Toppers completed their first week of actual practice on the court. Drills have been spirited and there seems to a great sense of bonding taking place. Different leaders appear to step forward each day and give everyone a positive boost.
The Topper Cross Country teams competed in the Delta State Invitational on this past Saturday (12 Sep). Our men's team finished 3rd. Austin Epting was a top 10 finisher. We only had four women runners, so they did not score as a team. However, Tuesdae Rowland finished 5th overall. Magan Wilburn was 7th and Stephanie Dillard was 10th. This Saturday we travel to Nashville to compete in a large meet hosted by Vanderbilt University.
The Lady Toppers show great promise as practice begins. A solid off season workout has brought the Lady Toppers back to campus with a higher level of physical fitness and will certainly pay off on the court.
First practice! Wow! You just can't beat the excitement, the energy, the enthusiasm of that very first night on the court.
